New Adventures

My Australian adventures are soon over. It is comfirmed that I have graduated from the Master of Media Production at RMIT University and I’m no longer a student. I have therefor booked my tickets back to Europe and the possibly the most fun, memorable and influencial era in my life so far, is now over. It’s a sad and frighten felling leaving a place, a city and people that I care so much about, going to a new and unknown place. REM say in their song “Leaving New York” that it’s easier to leave, than be left behind, but I’m not sure if that’s always true.

I have started looking for jobs already and my first application has been sent. It is for a job as a journalist for NRK (national broadcaster in Norway) in Vadso. For those who don’t Norway that well, it’s has the same climate as Alaska and only a population of a few thousand. If I get the job it will be a huge transition, but also a excellent way to starting my career. Trying to not get my hopes up yet since it is my first application, and can’t expect to get a job on the first try.

But before the cold north (Norway or the UK, only time can tell) is awaiting, I’m going on my first backpacking adventure to celebrate my new adult life and responsibilities. I’m going to travel Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia mostly be myself. To all of you back home in Norway: these are not countries that have been effected by the new tragic tsunami. I’m specially looking forward to see Ankor Wat in Cambodia, as I’m a sucker for histrorical monuments, and this is the biggest and oldest in the world!!

Also looking forward to see Line and James in malaysia and spend some lazy days, drink beer and hanging out on the beach, in perfect summer surroundings. I need a few weeks of summer since I will just miss the European summer, and the fact that Melbourne have been freezing this winter doesn’t help either.

I will use this blog to report on my travels in Asia and in life, start uploading pictures and have a lot more fun with it now that I do not need it for Uni anymore. So keep yourself updated if you are interested in what happens next with me.

  1. hi
just stumbled across your post. i love quiet earth cafe!
just to say im glad you love melbourne, sounds as if you do about as much as i do :) wouldnt live anywhere else (except maybe israel…)
anyway, in the REM song, they mean that its easier to leave home than be the people you leave behind. having just taken a year off myself i can relate to that - no doubt my family missed me more than i missed them! and having had to come home, i am certain they dont mean returning.
again though, you make me proud to call melbourne home. i often think about how great aussies are, like at a footy game (go hawks!) where theres no chance of rioting or fights breaking out, and the worst youll get is a jeer for wearing the losing teams scarf.
who knows, maybe ill run into you here some time….
    sim :)

  2. Thanks for the that Sim,

I totally agree with you that it’s easier to leave then be left behind, but leaving Melbourne is extra hard since I’m not sure if I ever will return and if I do will it be the same. When I left Norway I knew that I was going to be back sooner or later, I don’t know that about Melbourne. But I do hope we’ll meet in Melbourne someday.
